Jon Snow Lives! Kit Harington Spotted Filming for ‘Game of Thrones’

To hear the showrunners tell it, Jon Snow is dead. Maise Williams has said so. Carice van Houten said so. The boss of HBO has said so. It’s the company line, and everyone seems to be sticking to it. But any good Braavosi worth his weight in iron coin knows that this just can’t be. George R. R. Martin takes a worrisome pride in fan reaction to the deaths he’s wrought upon his characters so far, but he’s been cryptic when alluding to the fate of The North’s most famous — and arguably most important — bastard. Jon’s place in the overall narrative has still not been revealed, and that’s what keeps fans incredulous at the thought that he’s just gone without an explanation.

If Jon had anyone left behind to tell his story, maybe it would make sense to kill him off. But Ned Stark, who raised Jon Snow like his own bastard son, didn’t impart the knowledge of Jon’s mother to Snow or to anyone else that we’re aware of. And it would be far too much of a Deus ex Machina to have some old confidant of Ned’s to just pop up and say, “oh hey, by the way, here’s Jon Snow’s story, and he’s totally dead. Sorry ‘bout it.” The increasingly mainstream R+L=J theory posits that Jon is the son of Ned’s sister Lyanna Stark and Rheagar Targaryen. If true, that would mean that he has the blood of Ice (the Northern-bred House Stark motto is famously “Winter is Coming”) & Fire (the Targaryens keep dragons as pets for crying out loud) and that the collective title of this series of books could be very well focused on Jon, and likely Dany as well.

Now, with all of that being said, Kit Harington was spotted on set filming new scenes for the upcoming season of Game of Thrones. Could these scenes be flashbacks? Sure. Are they likely to be flashbacks? That’s harder to say. Jon appears to be dressed in duds similar to what he wore when he still lived at Winterfell, but are the show runners seriously going to give us a season one-era flashback now? I most certainly doubt it. He’s not in his Crow attire, that much is true, but he also appears to be much further south than the Wall. Alfie Allen, who plays Theon Greyjoy, AKA Reek, appears to be standing right next to Kit, although he’s dressed down in civilian duds, so it’s unlikely he’s filming a part for that particular scene and his scenes would have either preceded or followed the one the cast and crew were in the middle of in that photograph. Under the umbrella that is keeping the monitors and equipment shielded from the elements, there also stands a lady who appears — to me at least — to look an awfully lot like Carice van Houten (Melisandre herself) also dressed down in civvies. That observation is a stretch, to be sure, so take it with a grain of salt. The woman could very well be a producer, camera tech, or any such crew member. But as Alfie and Kit’s respective characters did not spend much time together in the first season, it’s unlikely that a flashback filmed now, 5 years after the show’s debut, would involve the two of them in some way. And a flashback to a time when the two of them were in the same place most CERTAINLY would not involve Melisandre. So what does it all mean? When it comes to GoT, who the eff knows?

All I know is that I refuse to accept Jon Snow’s death as fact. Even if Martin kills Snow off in the upcoming book, I still will refuse to accept that fact. You just don’t set up your man for a touchdown play only to then pull him out of the game. You just don’t George! Furthermore, Kit Harington’s absence at the Golden Globes was mighty suspicious, given that if he had truly exited the show, he’d be more than happy to give post-mortem interviews about his time on the show especially on a night celebrating the show, and talking about how proud he was that they had been nominated for awards. Instead, the HBO brass likely kept him sequestered from such a press-heavy event so as to prevent any possible clue leaking out about his new upcoming filming work on the show.

What do you fine folks think about the photo? Am I reading far too much into Kit’s presence, as well as the folks around him? I want to know so let’s discuss below or on Twitter. Long live Snow!

Comedy Break: Iliza Shlesinger on The Tonight Show

tumblr_nig6zkKUbN1qhub34o2_500

Last week, Iliza Shlesinger gave what was in my opinion one of the funniest late night sets in recent memory. Her appearance on The Tonight Show was a primer for her new Netflix Special “Freezing Hot.” If you’re not familiar with her, she’s a very animated and fast-paced comedian, and you’re going to love this set, I guarantee it! (Returns not accepted.)

Her Netflix special “Freezing Hot” is available now.

Sailor Moon Anniversary Merchandise Expands To Action Figures!

This year has been all about the resurgence of Sailor Moon and the Scouts with the original series and new Crystal series airing on Hulu.  Bandai’s hyper-articulate line of action figures, Bandai Tamashii Nations S.H. Figuarts, has released the core group of Scouts already with and they’ll be finishing out the lineup early next year.

The detail, customization and articulation on these figures is ridiculous and I have to have them. I have to have them now. The Luna figure comes with Sailor Moon, and the Artemis figure comes with Sailor Venus.

They’re clearly a bit pricier than normal action figures, but worth it, in my opinion. If you’re interested, the quickest way to get them is to head over to Amazon and pick one up here: Bandai Tamashii Nations Sailor Moon “Sailor Moon” S.H. Figuarts.

First Look at Colton Haynes as Arsenal in CW’s Arrow!

Colton Haynes as Arsenal

Holy crap, you guys!

Colton Haynes’ Roy Harper has come out to play and he’s looking all neat and fetish-y! Entertainment Weekly just released this image of the Arrow star as Arsenal and includes some news on Roy’s involvement in season 3!

Says ew.com:

Last season on Arrow, Roy Harper was injected with Slade’s Mirakuru serum and had to deal with all of the rage that went with it. But now that Roy is Mirakuru-free, what will season three hold for the wearer of red hoodies? For one thing, another red hoodie.

As comic-book fans know, Roy Harper sometimes goes by another name: Arsenal. And not only can EW confirm that Roy will be joining Team Arrow as a fully fledged member in season three, but here’s an exclusive first look at Colton Haynes, who plays Roy, too—in full Arsenal attire (above).

The Arsenal suit will make its first appearance in the first episode of season three, which returns Oct. 8 on The CW.

Sailor Moon is Back!

Sailor Moon has returned, and it turns out the wait was well worth it because the first episode of the new anime is rocking everyone’s socks off! Watch it now before the free episode is taken down to make room for the new episode tomorrow!

WARNING: I don’t remember everyone’s Westernized names so I’m resolving to using their original Japanese names, I’ll make an effort to fill in the blanks for those who don’t know who the hell I’m talking about.

Finally! A Full-Length Doctor Who Trailer with Peter Capaldi!

Here we go, guys! Our first GOOD look at Peter Capaldi as the Doctor!

Now, I have to admit, I haven’t been as obsessed with the upcoming season of Doctor Who as I have been in seasons past because I’m a little on the fence — and it’s no fault of Capaldi’s! I’ve been wanting a new Doctor after Matt Smith’s second and third seasons, and though Capaldi wasn’t the man I was hoping would take up the sonic screwdriver, I’m more than certain Capaldi will leave a great mark inside the TARDIS as his predecessors have!

The story-telling, however, I feel, has been taking a turn. Like Clara’s story…what the hell is her deal? How is she so capable in so little time? Why should we care? It’s a tiny gripe, but others such as this are starting to accumulate, and it’s because of this that I’ve decided to take a step back from the feverish love I have for the show. This season, I’m going in blind — knowing nothing about it until these episodes air.

I’ve spent so much time expecting awesomeness from previous episodes and almost always came off it a little let down. I grew frustrated with Matt Smith’s Doctor because the show went from the stories that hooked you in, to promoting how much a huge star Smith and Karen Gillan were becoming whilst on the show. Smith, of course, cast in Ryan Gosling’s upcoming directorial debut (is it a debut? I don’t even know anymore), and Gillan being cast as Nebula in Marvel Studios’ upcoming box office giant, Guardians of the Galaxy.

There’s nothing wrong with that, of course. Fantastic for them! I can’t wait to see more of them — though maybe not Gillan’s upcoming show on ABC. I don’t think that Selfie has what it takes to become a thing.

I think it’s time Moffat hand off the Doctor to someone else whose hands aren’t as full as his, and who probably isn’t as willing to throw himself in the spotlight when promoting the show. Moffat can then, in turn, concentrate on making Sherlock even more incredible than he’s already made it. Let someone else get back to the storytelling of Doctor Who!

The Twelfth “First Teaser” For the New Season of Doctor Who Is Here!

Doctor Who Series 8 Iconic

Okay, so there haven’t really been *that* many teasers, but you have to admit, they seem to be touting every screen appearance of Capaldi as some kind of first. His peekaboo in the big movie from last year was kind of a “first.” The big, live reveal was kind of a “first.” I like the guy well enough, but I’m not fully on board with the BBC/Moffatt’s Capaldi-marketing-strategy. Whatevs. I’m looking forward to Clara eventually going her own way and Capaldi getting a new companion who will really play to his strengths.  -hw

The Flash Gets An Extended Trailer!

If you’ve been keeping up with the CW’s Arrow, then you know we were introduced to Barry Allen a few months back. At the end of this cameo, he was struck by the fateful lightning that gives him his powers and we’ve heard from S.T.A.R. Labs that he’s been in a coma ever since. Then came the uncertainty of where this show’s intended launch would happen, Netflix or the CW (it’s the latter, as you’ll see).

Now, I admit I’m not heavily into either comic characters but I do watch Arrow and I love it. I wasn’t too convinced the show would last but it’s really picked up these last two seasons!

During last night’s intense Arrow finale, there was a teaser for The Flash during one of the commercial breaks. It wasn’t great but it was cute. Today, an extended 5 minute trailer was released and HOLY! CRAP! It plays like a movie trailer, it looks better than Arrow, and I think they totally gave away what’s going to happen in the first episode, but that’s ok!

Is it fall yet?! The Flash premieres this fall on the CW. Will YOU be watching?
