Roman’s Recommendation: Clive Barker’s Next Testament

Clive Barker's Next Testament, Vol. 1Hold on to your hats, folks! With artwork from Haemi Jang and written by the Master of Horror himself and his Seraphim Films VP, Mark Miller, we have the first 6 issues from Clive Barker's Next Testament (Vol. 1) out on trade paperback today! In the series, Barker, Miller, and Jang bring us a close encounter with God that won't soon be forgotten! From the April 2013 Nerdist interview with Mark Miller:

Nerdist: Well, it sounds like you’re up to the task. Tell us a bit about Next Testament and what we can expect.

Mark Miller: It’s about a man who unearths God – The God – and soon discovers he’s made a terrible mistake. This is the God of the Old Testament we’re talking about here. He’s not exactly known for being rational or compassionate. As for what to expect from the series, I’m going to go with sex, violence, and sacrilege. Y’know, all the important stuff.

The series has been well received among Barker fans and the artwork alone is bonkers, crazy props to Haemi Jang! Go out and get your copy today or buy it online now!

Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey Cast in Latest Clive Barker Movie

Exciting news from Variety and Clive Barker today! Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones (aka actress Lena Headey), is set to star in Jaqueline Ess, the next of Clive Barker's adaptations to get a film treatment (with the Master of Horror himself set as executive producer)!

From Variety: “Jacqueline Ess” is the story of a woman who, in her thirst for change, achieves the ability to transform people’s bodies at will. It originally appeared in Barker’s “Books of Blood” anthologies, which also included the stories that were basis for the horror films “Lord of Illusions” and “Candyman.”

Keep an eye out, it sounds like it's going to be another great Barker creeper!

Clive Barker Takes On Zombies & Gladiators

Like most of the geeks who couldn't attend the week-long event, my attention was squarely set on the E3 2012 coverage on tv. This little nugget, however, broke my attention away from games completely... So, it was announced today that Hellraiser creator, Clive Barker, is taking on the zombie genre (!). This time around the living dead will feast on the flesh of Roman citizens and gladiators in a film masterfully titled, Zombies Vs Gladiators (!!). That, however, wasn't the bit that was a mindfuck for me, it's who the Master of Horror is teaming up with to bring this project to life. It's Amazon. Yes, that Amazon. As in amazon.com. Or, more correctly, Amazon Studios. Until today, I didn't even know that existed and, say what you will, I'm actually looking forward to seeing the final result! I have it on good authority that Clive is a fan of the Starz series, Spartacus, so who knows what sort of eye(gouging?)-candy he might bring to us! Says Barker:
I’m excited by the opportunity to interweave two very rich narrative threads. One of them concerns itself with the reality of the decadence of Rome and its rise and fall. The other is a fantastical narrative element - the living dead. My brief to myself on this project is to give the audience not only zombies they have never seen before but also a Rome they have never seen before. Amazon Studios offered up the dream ticket with this project. In twenty-five years of working in this town, I've rarely had people listen to what I had to say as closely and as carefully as they did and then simply give me the freedom to go do it. Amazon Studios is an innovative creative concept. I am looking forward to providing my own perspective to make Zombies vs. Gladiators a highly commercial and entertaining movie.
Checking out their Amazon Studios page doesn't reveal much, but they do have a set of spec-trailers ready for viewing! No further details or shoot/release dates are available at this time.
