Music Monday: k.d. lang

If you ever felt that k.d. lang was the heir apparent to Roy Orbison's signature sound, your feelings are justified and amplified by the release of her new album with the Siss Boom Gang, Sing It Loud. Maybe it's due to my Kentucky heritage, but I've always drifted to Americana and throwback Country music. This album feeds into both genres beautifully. Make no mistake, I'm no fan of what would be called "Country" by today's standards, but rather the Country music of yore: Porter Wagoner, Hank the First, Loretta, Dolly, Waylon and the like. The first single from the album, I Confess, is a beautiful haunting melody replete with a video set in a strip club. Can't beat that with a stick!

Next up is a beautiful song called The Water's Edge.

And finally, take a listen to I Am The Winner. It's a true swinging throwback and I dare you to keep from tapping your toe while you listen to it. DARE YOU. "You're a prize, I am the winner."
